Hello, my colorful friends. Need to do something with the pages you are coloring?
Some of my favorite images to color are Color Happy Mandalas. They are perfect for applying to clear plates to make joyful décor. The round design makes the application easier for plates, platters, cutting boards, etc. Let’s get creative and make something pretty.
Materials needed are:
- Colored mandala page (from Color Happy of course!)
- clear glass plate
- Mod Podge
- foam brush
- rhinestones (Optional)
Additional items needed that are not pictured are
- super glue, (gorilla gel glue is my personal favorite)
- rubbing alcohol
- paper towel.
The first step is preparing the plate by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. This process removes any dirt, fingerprints and most important skin oil that can prevent the page from adhering right to the plate.
The second step takes time to fussy cut the mandala out along the outer outline. Once completely trim, cut in between the petals of the design just a small little bit. These small cuts will allow for the mandala to lay flat once glued and decrease the chances of air bubbles under the page.
The third step can be slightly messy. Apply a generous coat of mod podge to the clean plate. Coat the back of your cut out mandala with a thin layer also making sure coat all over the center and out the edges.
The fourth step lay down your sticky mandala onto the plate doing your best to center it. With gentle firm pressure of your fingers, press the page down moving from the center outward to remove air bubbles. Brush a thin topcoat over the whole image from the center towards the edges being sure to cover well.
The plate will look cloudy but as the mod podge dries it clears up. Leave it alone for about 30 minutes or until dry to the touch. Once dry the fun part begins, putting on the bling.
To bling or not to bling is a personal choice. For this mandala, I chose iridescent stones. Using tweezers is the easiest way to apply them. When gluing the stones to the plate a little dab will do ya. I prefer using gorilla glue that has a gel-like consistency.
And TA-DA you have a beautifully handmade décor piece that can grace your home or bring a smile to someone you know and love. These plates are intended for joyful decoration only and not suitable to be used for food consumption.
